PORTLAND, Oregon — DoveLewis, Portland's nonprofit emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, unveiled a new 30,000-square-foot medical facility Monday in the Slabtown neighborhood, marking a significant expansion of veterinary services in the region.

The new facility, located across the street from DoveLewis' existing hospital, features additional exam rooms, surgery suites and advanced imaging equipment. The expansion transforms the organization from an emergency hospital into a comprehensive medical center for pets.

"This is a momentous milestone for DoveLewis, and most importantly, for the pets and families we serve," said Ron Morgan, President and CEO of DoveLewis. "It means convenience, it means continuity of care, it means more efficient delivery of care for our beloved pets, and so we really think this is a game changer for Portland and our pet loving community."

While the original DoveLewis hospital will continue operating its 24/7 emergency room and intensive care unit, the new facility focuses on specialized and continuing care.

"So people who come into our ER, just like human health care, they want to be able to go and get advanced continuing treatments, and DoveLewis has been doing that for a number of years, but then needed more space to do even more," Morgan said.

The expansion project was completed ahead of schedule thanks to an anonymous donor and community support, enabling DoveLewis to acquire new medical equipment and recruit additional veterinary professionals.

"This new facility is a reflection of the incredible compassion and generosity of our community," Morgan said. "We are deeply grateful to those who believe in our mission and helped make this vision a reality. Together, we're building a brighter future for pets and the people who love them."

The combined facilities now form Portland's largest veterinary care hub, providing round-the-clock emergency services alongside specialized treatment options for pets.
